What do you find appealing about the show? I watch the reruns late at night. I realize it's idiotic, but... I don't mind watching it and actually enjoy it. I just don't understand why I enjoy it and so I'm bothered. Of course, I don't enjoy it enough to see new episodes, or buy the seasons on DVD, but still, I can't sleep at nights because of this mystery. The question haunts me.... why...

A video tape of Lanford Wilson's one act, one actor play A Poster of The Cosmos - a baker is interrogated in a New York City police station over an unspecified crime. From the unconnected ramblings you can only guess at what he's being grilled over – a murder, a robbery, a drug deal gone bad – until the facts start to slowly seep out. Then it all spills over as the actor's face begins to change into a rictus of fear, doubt, anger, and revulsion under the interrogation light - done right it leaves you shaken, and it was definitely done right in this instance.

The Passage (1979)
During WWII, a Basque shepherd (Anthony Quinn) is approached by the underground, who want him to lead a scientist Professor Bergson (James Mason) and his family across the Pyrenees, while being pursued by the sadistic Nazi Captain von Berkow (Malcolm McDowell). Based on the 1976 novel "Perilous Passage" by Bruce Nicolaysen who also wrote the screenplay. Directed by J. Lee Thompson.
This film was so controversial it only played for a week in one theatre in Seattle and hasn't been released on VHS or any format in the USA. It has only been released on home video once in 1982 on PAL tape and never on DVD.
This all-star flop is a pointless story using WWII-era international intrigue as a backdrop to show some explosions (note: you can blow up an entire train with a few well-placed shots from an MP40), ultraviolence, in-out-in-out/female nudity - in other words, a trashy, dumb and great popcorn movie. This one is worth seeing only for Malcolm McDowell's performance. You can tell he doesn't give a shit for the terrible script, decides to ham it up & has a lot of campy fun with his character.
This movie flopped and was pulled from distribution probably because audiences were confused by the weird combination of a serious subject (a Jewish family running from the Nazis) with a weirdly likeable comedic horror-movie style villain (like Freddy or Jason, von Berkow is virtually invincible, and the goriest scene is full of sick humor).
Your only chance to see this rare, hard to find pile of crap is on late night cable, a bootleg DVD or you can download it here:

The Beaver Trilogy (2000)
http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/1125/imgbeavertrilogynl0.jpg
It begins in 1979 with the chance meeting in a Salt Lake City parking lot where filmmaker Trent Harris is approached by an earnest small-town dreamer from Beaver, Utah. Harris jumps at the chance when the young man invites him to come to the small town of Beaver to film a talent show. At the show, the man dons black leather, blond wig and performs in drag as Olivia Newton John. Harris captures it all on tape. What unfolds is a strange, funny, and ultimately poignant portrait of a true outsider. Not willing to let the story go, Harris then created a dramatic piece, "Beaver Kid 2" based on the documentary. This interpretation, shot in 1981 on a home video camera with a budget of $100, features the young Sean Penn as the Beaver Kid re-enacting the same scenario. Still possessed, Harris then rewrote the script, cast Crispin Glover in the lead, and in 1985 created the final segment, "Orkly Kid" as an American Film Institute project. The three pieces were re-edited, compiled, and finally screened at the Lincoln Center in New York City in July of 2000. Beaver Trilogy unveils the inner world of a fantastic character compelled to hide, yet at the same time, tell the world about his secret life.
background info & interview w/Trent Harris (http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/archives/online_features/beaver_trilogy.php)
Another hard to find film never officially released on video/DVD (due to copyright issues on the use of Olivia Newton-John's music in the film), you can buy a bootleg DVD from the director @ this site (http://tinyurl.com/2zcqf2) or someone might have a torrent (http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=the+beaver+trilogy) of it. It's clunky, it's too long and too obvious, but it works - at least partially because Ed Harris is so incredibly intense.

Payday (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069067/), a long lost character study of a rising country musician (played by Rip Torn!) in the early '70s, with a couple of hits under his belt and a succession of groupies he uses and dumps in quick succession. Pills and booze abound, endless hotel rooms, roadside restaurants and stretches of highway - and Torn as a charming monster of a fuck up front man, with a wide grin that masks malevolent intentions. You've seen it before, but this one is better than most - though for those that demand a heavy plot it's kind of aimless, more of a series of picaresque adventures than anything else.

The things that stuck out for me were the way the Soviets were always called "the Russians", I guess some people don't want the tensions between us to dissolve.
The other was Charlie's admission that the Jews control him-
"I have to tell you-I'm elected by Jews"
"How many Jews do you have in your district?"
Seven- but congressman aren't elected by voters they're elected by donors and mine are in New York, Florida, Hollywood because I'm their guy on the hill."

Colored people always seem out of place in these fantasy films. I never read the novel so I wonder if they were actual characters. I'm not saying there shouldn't be colored people, what I'm saying is that they should be put in the right environment. In Conan they were put in the right environment.

The cat in this video would've followed the second flush out to the sewere in my house... ....assuming this 'backstory' isn't BS, and it very well might be...
Jennifer and Jim kept getting huge water bills. They knew beyond a doubt that the bills weren't representative of their actual usage, and no matter how they tried to conserve, the high bills continued. Although they could see nothing wrong, they had everything checked for leaks or problems: first the water meter, then outdoor pipes, indoor pipes, underground pipes, faucets, toilets, washer, ice maker, etc. - all to no avail.
One day Jim was sick and stayed home from work, but kept hearing water running downstairs. He finally tore himself from his sick bed to investigate, and stumbled onto the cause of such high water bills. Apparently this was happening all day long when they were not at home. Knowing that few would believe him, he taped a segment of the 'problem' for posterity

Last night on Turner Classic Movies I watched Titanic (1943) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0036443/), and noticed how closely James Cameron's 1997 version resembled it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanic_(1943_film)#Allegations_about_the_1997_Tit anic) (minus the propaganda elements). Half the plot of the 1997 blockbuster seems to be lifted almost directly from this version. Is James Cameron's Titanic another "Lion King (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimba_the_White_Lion#The_Lion_King_controversy)?"
Usually, the tale of the RMS Titanic serves as an object lesson in hubris, but in the Nazi-version, the sin that causes the death of over 1,500 passengers is greed: Sir Ismay, the owner of the White Star line played by Ernst Fritz Fürbinger, wants to break all records to drive stock prices up while John Jacob Astor (Karl Schönböck) is trying to thwart him so he can take over the company. The epilogue makes clear that there is no justice for the death caused by the speculating Englishman and his American nemesis. The sympathetic characters display more “German” virtues that must have seemed useful to the Nazis in 1943: honor, duty, obedience. - Jürgen Fauth (http://jurgenfauth.com/2007/10/01/titanic-1943/)
Interesting facts:
• Titanic was the most expensive German production up until that time.
• Had very good special effects all things considered.
• The director was arrested & executed for treason (he made some anti-Hitler remarks on set) before he could finish the film, but his name still appears on the opening credits as the sole director.
• It turned out to be a huge waste of money, because they couldn't premiere it in Germany (the theater was bombed out) and it was quickly banned by Goebbels.
• After the war, this movie was banned pretty much everywhere - except the Soviet Union, where it was very popular for its anti-capitalist message. Commies love a Nazi propaganda film, oh the irony!

For some reason I remember staying up really, really late to watch some Vietnam war movie starring John Larroquette, but having looked through his filmography I cannot locate it (some actors keep particular films off their credits on IMDB). It wasn't a great movie looking back and the only reason I remember anything about it at all is because I was 12 years old and I convinced my mom to allow me to stay up until 2am on a school night because "I'm really into this story." I will never know the name of that movie and it drives me nuts...

Have you ever watched a movie and like 14 years later you still vaguely remember it but you don't know WTF it's called and it drives you crazy trying to remember it? For some reason I remember staying up really, really late to watch some Vietnam war movie starring John Larroquette, but having looked through his filmography I cannot locate it (some actors keep particular films off their credits on IMDB). It wasn't a great movie looking back and the only reason I remember anything about it at all is because I was 12 years old and I convinced my mom to allow me to stay up until 2am on a school night because "I'm really into this story." I will never know the name of that movie and it drives me nuts...
There was a film called "Shimmer" that I saw on cable in the early 90s that I liked very much but couldn't recall the title years later and it was killing me. One of the characters in the film looked like a young Gary Busey. Seven years ago I saw a crappy comedy with a guy who looked like a young Gary Busey. It was his son. He had played the role. From there I was able to track down the title of the film but I haven't been able to find it on tape.
Edit: Score!

Hello Rhymer:
This 1993 American Playhouse "Shimmer" is among my large collection of TV specials on VHS going back to 1983. I have just viewed it while doing a transfer of it (and of others) to DVD-R disc, and the quality is very good. Program is in color and has a running time of approx 95 minutes.(I had all but forgotten what a powerful and sentimental play it is. )
If you have not managed to obtain a copy of it yet, please contact me at gilturk@shaw.ca. ( In Canada). Price of DVD + shipping to USA would be US $ 15.00. I accept Paypal, personal cheque (10 days to clear) and US bank money or International Postal money order ( ON PINK FORM, NOT THE GREEN ONE.)
Regards. Gil.

The gore made it worth watching. The problem lied in the horrible voice dubbing. I felt like I was watching Evil Dead with Sailer Moon dubbed over Bruce Cambells voice.
The special effects, while unique, were very poor. However, it wasn't as big a problem as the dubbing. The girl with the drill bra was cool. IMO

New, (2008), An interview with former CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson; a report on the rape of women during the civil war in the Congo; a segment on the supposed discovery of Leonardo da Vinci's lost masterpiece, "The Battle of Anghiari." (Newsmagazine).
First off Valerie Plame Wilson is smoking hot! The Bush junta outed when she was doing covert work for the CIA. About the rapes in Congo, after watching this one with a brain can't come away without admitting niggers are absolute animals. The shear brutality of the rapes committed in the Congo are shocking! Women raped in front of the brothers, fathers, mothers, sisters, husbands, and entire villages. These women were raped so brutally, often times sodomized by foreign objects, many can no longer control any of their bodily functions, like urinating and defecating. The mural by da Vinci is absolutely stunning!

This film could have been so much better if it showed a little more focus. Most of it was hit or miss. There were parts where it could have made fun of corporations like Wal-Mart and totally missed it. Most of all I wanted to see a film mocking patriotards. That didn't happen. I mean, wtf? This was the best they could do!? Just log on to Free Republic. The madness writes itself! The film was all Hollywood. The directors says bad shit about Hollywood but his film copied all the bad parts from Hollywood films. He totally blew the opportunity to make a good parody about America. Plus no liberal, feminist, gay bashing. They made some mention of Jews. Used the word nigger. The film had Nazis. Yeah, big deal. The Nazi was the Canadian dude, Dave Foley. I know that guy doesnt support Hitler. Plus he has a small dick. I know cause its in this film. I didn't want to see that part of you DAVE FOLEY! :disagree:

I had this exact problem about a month ago (technically, it was a movie I saw 13 years ago, not 14, but close enough). Doing keyword/phrase searches at IMDB is a great way to resolve this issue. My film turned out to be "Sands of the Kalahari," from 1965, as I recall. Excellent fucking film. One of the absolute best from that decade; in the Top 100 of all time. Maybe even Top 50.

Last week I caught one of the better movies I've seen in a long timie. It is "Nobody Knows" a Japanese movie. It is based on a true story, it is about a younger women with 4 kids by 4 different fathers, all of the children basically don't exist, they were never registered when they were born, none went to school or nothing. The lady moves into a new apartment, but she tells the land lord she only has 1 kid, the eldest, a 12 year old boy. The other 3 kids she smuggles in the house. So the mother basically takes a job in another town and leaves the kids in the apartment by themselves for like a month at a time, she does leave them money for the eldest to buy food and stuff. Then during one of her leaves she never comes back, and the kids are alone for a couple months, money runs out, the oldest has to beg for food and stuff like that. Eventually the younger kids get cabin fever and start to leave the house, all the power, heat, and water are turned off in the apartment. It is the saddest movie I've ever seen. I was especially surprised to see such a powerful movie like this come from Japs, a people who aren't known for their emotions.

Zwartboek by Paul Verhoeven, I joogled a torrent here (http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/29943771/zwartboek?tab=comments). I'm surprised the jews allowed this 1944-1945 movie to be made, probably Paul Verhoeven got away with it because some of the Germans are Hollywood nazis and zionists end up getting the money.
Pure eyecandy and earcandy, the war every historical movie should be; Germans speak German, Englishmen speak Engliish, Dutchmen speak Dutch, even He-Brews speak He-Brew.

No surprises as it's been referenced so many times on various message boards. It was a good script but Roddy Pipper and the cheesy eighties look of it are distracting.
I don't think I realized it was a John Carpenter movie, if I had I would have given it a chance earlier. It's prime remake material.

Pretty good movie, the emphasis on the toll that aging takes on a man's body after decades of hard use hit home.
The other thing that struck me was how much the average movie fight scene is like wrestling in the way they toss each other around.
That and how Maresi Tomei is so very fuckable.

The Green Butchers (De Grønne Slagtere) Review
By Daniel Etherington
http://www.axelmusic.com/resources/covers/0/043396111233o.jpg
Two losers open a butcher's shop which becomes successful when they start selling human meat. Black comedy from Denmark written and directed by Anders Thomas Jensen.
"I've always been fascinated by sausages. There's something mythological about killing an animal then mocking it by sticking it into its own intestines. Could anything be more humiliating than being put up your own arse?" So says successful butcher Holger (Thestrup) to an enquiring customer. It pretty much sets the scene for this offbeat black comedy from Anders Thomas Jensen, writer of Mifune, The King Is Alive, Open Hearts (Dogme #3, #4 and #28), and Wilbur Wants To Kill Himself.
Holger employs Svend (Mikkelsen) and Bjarne (Kaas), but they're frustrated with their lot. Svend especially suffers endless put-downs from Holger, who calls him "Sweaty Svend" and maligns his meatballs and marinade recipe. Svend convinces Bjarne they need to go it alone, so the latter tells the staff of the sanatorium where his twin brother is in a coma to turn off the life-support, he then takes an advance against his inheritance. The result is 'Svend & Co', a new shop that has a brass band opening then proceeds to attract no customers whatsoever.
Locking up for the night, Svend accidentally closes the meat locker on an electrician. Things aren't going well for Svend, his business ambitions are failing ("I thought we did everything right, so where are the customers?") and his girlfriend (Jørgensen) leaves him for being an uptight control freak ("The barbeque season is not the right time to break up!"), so he starts losing it.
This is exemplified by the fact that when he finds the electrician's frozen body, rather than reporting the death, he panics and "cuts 13 fillets from his leg and puts them in marinade." What's more, he sells the fillets to Holger, who stops by looking for some meat for a party he's having. Next day, word has got around about the food at Holger's party and a huge queue is formed outside Svend & Co. "Can't you see you're mad?" Bjarne asks Svend, who quite frankly is borderline psychopathic, but is enraptured of his new success, selling human meat as "Chicky Wickies". Inevitably there are more victims (their estate agent, "a Swede I found in the park last night"). Bjarne is against it, but, as a depressive stoner, he can't stop Svend. And even he seems to be taking advantage of their new success, starting to go out with a local girl (Kruse). But then Bjarne's brain-damaged brother Eigil (also Kaas) suddenly wakes from his coma, and things get more complicated, with Bjarne having to face up to his tragic past. What will become of these latter-day Sweeney Todds?
The Green Butchers is a deeply peculiar film. It's visually stylish, and has a unique sense of humour, like a moribund Danish hybrid of Delicatessen and Dumb & Dumber. Svend and Bjarne really are both idiots, and invested with highly dubious morals. All they really want is some love, and the success of their shop seems to offer that, no matter the cost. Considering it's a dark film about unwitting cannibalism featuring frustratingly moronic protagonists, it's surprisingly sweet too, which is in large part down to Kaas, with his dual role as the tragic twins, and Mikkelsen, who even makes the manipulative, exasperating Svend strangely sympathetic.
Verdict
A dryly humorous, macabre tale of ambitions, meat, marinade and the need to be loved that's surprisingly sweet even when its satire is failing.

Second-tier Bogie-noir; Lizabeth Scott is just godawful, and unlike THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS, where she's a secondary character, here there's no escaping her wooden rasp.
The one saving grace is the end. Instead of Bogie telling Mary Astor, "You killed Miles and you're going over for it" at the finale of THE MALTESE FALCON, here he just flat out tells Lezzy Liz "You're gonna fry, shweetheart." Ouch!

Sorry but as much as those days made better films, there is certainly a subversive immorality present in hollywood films even in his time. Just look at say, Rope with its homoerotic undertones and The Stranger and Notorious with their propaganda feel and moral ambiguity. They were better films but one can still see subversive ideas subtley placed in them.

Yes - it wouldn't do to draw attention to the homoerotic undertones in a relationship that, in the real world, and in the several movies based on the actual event, had homosexual undertones to it.
